Cleanup Australia Day!

Cleanup Australia Day!

Retub the reusable takeaway container

Team retub participated in Cleanup Australia Day.

We spent about an hour cleaning up the beach and another hour sorting through the waste.

It was no surprise to see single-use containers making up a significant proportion of the waste collected.

We take it as an opportunity to talk about and spread awareness on CleanUp Australia Day.

Clean Up Australia Limited is a not-for-profit Australian environmental conservation organization founded by Australians Ian Kiernan and Kim McKay in 1989. Clean Up Australia Day is held on the first Sunday of March every year and encourages people to clean up their local areas.

In 1989, Clean Up Australia Day began when Mr Kiernan (the founder) decided to organize a cleanup day with the support of a committee of friends, including co-founder Kim McKay AO called Clean Up Sydney Harbour.

It's estimated that more than half a million people picked up close to 16,000 tonnes of rubbish across Australia over the weekend.

This day serves as a great reminder, to reflect on our actions, ponder over the consequences and the damage caused to the environment.

Here are the overall reports for statistics on waste in 2019.
